5 Things I love about blogging

This blog post will share five reasons why I love blogging, as well as a ramble about why I wanted to write this generic blog post in the first place.

Skip to the ‘what I love about blogging section’ if you are not in the mood for an honest ramble.

Introduction

Okay, this might seem like a generic blog post, but hear me out. Do you ever have those moments where you question everything? You question yourself, why am I doing this? You tell yourself, this isn’t going anywhere. You belittle your achievements and convince yourself that what you are doing is pointless?

Just me?

I have experienced this while blogging, even though I love it.

There are so many amazing bloggers out there, who have their sh*t together, and there is little old me who is still researching what everything is. It can be overwhelming, even if you do like it so much.

There is a purpose to this ramble, I swear.

The point is, I want to write this post as a reminder for myself. There is so much I love about blogging, but sometimes when you overthink, those reasons can be overshadowed by self-doubt and scenarios that just won’t happen.

While I am not sure where my blogging journey will lead, I hope this post serves as a constant reminder.

What I love about blogging

I hope you can relate to some of these reasons why I love blogging; if you don’t, let me know what you love about blogging in the comment section below.

1. Creative outlet

Blogging has provided me with a creative outlet for all my weird and wonderful thoughts. While I hope I can make others feel less alone with my blogs, I do write blog posts to express myself. I felt like a weight lifted off my chest when I wrote about my experiences with people telling me to talk more because I was so quiet. I felt happy when I wrote about the games I was playing at home and motivated when I spoke of my goals

Blogging, in a sense, has given me permission to talk about the things I love, my struggles and the experiences I am facing in my twenties.

2. Challenging

It feels like I am Googling a new question about blogging every day, well, maybe because I am… multiple times. I love it. It feels like I have the passion I had at University back. Each day doesn’t feel like a repeat of the last, as I am learning about Pinterest, SEO, what a self-hosted site is and more.

3. Blogging community

I mention the blogging community so many times in my blogs because I genuinely am thankful for them. Even big bloggers support newcomers and answer questions they’ve probably responded to hundreds of times before.

I’ve always struggled with being lonely and never really felt a sense of belonging until now. Don’t get me wrong; I am still convinced that one day someone will say, ‘you don’t belong here’, but I think that is my imposter syndrome talking. I feel a sense of belonging in the blogging community, as everyone is so supportive and good fun to interact with on different platforms.

I love going through comments on my blogs genuinely because the comments feel comforting.

4. Motivation

I won’t lie to you; some days, I didn’t want to get out of bed. It felt tedious. Not just during Lockdown, but before. It felt like I wasn’t working towards anything, as there were no tangible or noticeable differences. It became a dull life on monotony, purely driven by the need to pay bills.

Blogging infused my life with some motivation. It feels like I am accomplishing something, as I am producing content that I love and creating content to promote it. Each day there is something new to do, even if it is only slightly different. This new level of motivation sparked some life into other areas of my day, and it positively affected my mood, work ethic and more.

It feels like I have a purpose again.

5. Stepping out of my comfort zone

While I have one foot still in my comfort zone, due to the anonymity that the name The Yorkshire Dreamer provides me, I have still stepped out of my comfort zone.

I know this seems silly, but even Tweeting questions was a challenge for me. I recently did my first writers life, for example, and I was terrified about doing one for so long. I didn’t think anyone would share their blog with me or engage. I told myself, ‘it doesn’t matter if no-one responds, just be yourself, and try’.

I still get very anxious when I post any content, but less now than when I first started. I remind myself that if I fail, that means I’ve tried; if I never fail, it means I haven’t done anything new.

Key takeaways

  • Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back
  •  If you fail, that means you’ve tried; if you never fail, it means you haven’t done anything new.
  • It is never too late to find your passion
  • Challenge yourself

Summary

There is so much more I could say about blogging and what I love, but I wanted to stick with five. Maybe I’ll write a longer list one day, but I will always have this list to come back to when self-doubt creeps in.

I am so pleased that I finally took the step and started blogging after months of hiding behind the potential failure.

Whether it is blogging, or something else, take that step. Overcome your fear and start a new passion project. You never know what you might love about it.

  1. I love all of these things about blogging, too. Something I would add is learning. I’m a passionate lifelong learner and blogging has taught me so many useful skills that I use in real life. I recently took a graphic design course and the teacher told me my designs looked really professional. Guess what! I learned it all from using Canva to create pins for my blog. LOL

  2. What a fantastic list! I think it’s great as a reminder to yourself, but also for someone like me reading this. There have been so many times I’ve felt like giving up and calling it a day. Be proud of what you’ve achieved so far because I think you’re doing brilliantly!

It’s a huge learning curve, isn’t it? I like that about it. It can be so frustrating and disheartening (especially if you look at stats like follower numbers or DA if you don’t have great numbers here) and we can lose sight of the good things. And the blogging community is, for the most part, absolutely incredible. xx

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. It is nice to read such a supportive comment.

I love the learning involved, and it feels like I learn something new each day. While I understand the importance of stats, I love the comments I get from the blogging community and others. It is a fantastic community to be a part of, especially during Lockdown.

Thank you for your comment! 💜

  3. The blogging community is what makes this whole thing work it! I love how it’s a community of strong women, men and people supporting each other and being nothing but kind and constructive!
