Places Around the World: 3 locations in Yorkshire you should visit

Someone pinch me! I’m part of a blogging collaboration organised by the incredible Bee from Mind Beauty Simplicity. I can’t express how much this means to me, I might love writing, but I can’t find the words to articulate how much I appreciate this inclusion. 

I started blogging during Lockdown to ease feelings of loneliness, which festered way before Lockdown. This collaboration is just one reason why I love blogging because it washes away that feeling of isolation.

Introduction 

Skipping the emotional dialogue and moving onto a much more optimistic topic! Travelling! With Lockdown restrictions easing, the vaccine distribution well underway and hope now ignited, most of us are itching to travel. 

That is where this idea stemmed from, the eventuality of travelling. This post, along with other posts in this collaboration, will explore three hidden gems in different locations worldwide, and for me, that location is Yorkshire. We hope these ideas inspire you to create your own bucket list of travel options to provide you with that additional light at the end of the tunnel. 

Yorkshire 

Yorkshire might not sound as glamourous as some locations in this collaboration, but it still has some hidden gems that will unleash your inner gamer, allow you to unwind and some that will have you stepping back through time. 

Yorkshire isn’t just about Cricket, the Brontë Sisters and Yorkshire puddings (although the latter, or should I say batter, is very important to me), which is why I want to share some locations I love and don’t worry, I have plenty of pictures to share throughout! 

Temple Newsam

If you’ve stumbled upon my blog before, you know how much I love Temple Newsam. It is a beautiful place and has everything I love, childlike entertainment in the form of animals, history in the form of a historical building, café food, a peaceful place to wander and adorable stuffed bears in the gift shop.  

Sometimes you just need to step out of the concrete jungle and submerge yourself in nature and farm life. There are 1,500 acres of land to explore, consisting of Woodland, Parkland, stunning landscaped gardens and breathtaking lakes. 

The Temple Newsam house has over 42 rooms to explore, as it is a Tudor Jacobean Mansion House, and each room allows you to step through time. You can learn about each piece, thanks to the informative signs. You’ll be amazed at how busy each room appears due to the detailed wallpaper, elegant furniture and pieces that only the ultra-rich had access to at the time. 

You can also get up close and personal with some farmyard animals in the Temple Newsam Farm. As someone who didn’t have the financial means to go to a farm growing up, visiting a farm in my twenties ignites my inner child. I get excited when I see the little lambs climbing on haystacks or donkeys roaming around, not to mention the adorable little piglets. 

Pixel Bar

There are a few places where I feel completely accepted, and one of those places is Pixel bar. I know, I know, a bar?! But, this isn’t just any bar; it is a gamer bar, with themed cocktails and mocktails, with music that will transport you back to your youth – you can’t help but sing along. 

Located in the heart of Leeds City Centre, this bar has something for everyone, including PC’s, console booths, food and drinks, along with retro games and the friendliest bar staff ever. 

The cocktails will have every gamer screaming, ‘I understand that reference’, as all have themed names. From the who’s that Pokémon cocktail to Yoshi’s Island Iced tea and my favourite, Heart Piece! I’ve tried most of the cocktails on the menu at this point (minus the new 2021 ones), but you know what they say, you’ve got to catch them all. 

Plus, they have 2-4-1 cocktails, so my inner cheapskate loves that. 

Brimham Rocks

Located in North Yorkshire, North West of Harrogate, Brimham Rocks is a phenomenal collection of natural rock formations. 

You can explore the grounds, climb as much or as little as you want and enjoy the spectacular views. One trip isn’t enough unless you plan to spend 4 hours on the site, as that is how long it would approximately take to venture across the entire site. 

You can take in the sight of the moorlands on both sides of the giant rock formations. It is amazing to consider that these rocks are sculptured by 320 million years of movement. 

Pro-tip, if you are exploring the rocks, do not put anything in your pocket without zips! I speak from experience. My heart still drops when I remember that my phone fell out of my pocket while on top of a rock. Luckily, the phone didn’t fall into the abyss, never to be seen again. 

Make your list
